There’s a small Topix community discussion with a posted question about why there aren’t more black businesses and why so many seem to be mom and pop operations or personal services types of operations. The truth of the matter is that most businesses, black or white, are small businesses and of those small businesses, many are sole proprietor organizations. Some of the question is based on a lack of awareness about businesses like those that comprise the Black Enterprise 100’s. This list of the nation’s largest black businesses demonstrates that black businesses exist across multiple industries and these large power players have gross receipts of over $27 billion. We’ve got to continue doing our thing at large levels and small but I’m convinced that the future of black business is full of even greater success and prosperity for black and non-black alike.
