New information has been released suggesing that African Americans Still Lag Online – eMarketer. Internet usage is tracked by Race and ethnicity for Whites, African Americans, Hispanics, Asians and others from 2006 and projected through 2011. Although the gap is closing, only 12% of internet users will be African American in 2011 with non-Hispanic whites comprising 70.3%. Today, the numbers for internet usage are 11.0% for African Americans and 73.3% non-Hispanic whites. The percentage of computer use within each set of users is higher than the internet usage but the overall low level of internet usage in our community needs to become much greater as the internet becomes even more influential for communication and informational media than radio, television or print media.
